Winner of Mobile Cup 2012

Jons Space Adventures won the programming-category of Mobile Cup 2012!

It feels really great that the game won, I didnt think that it would hold up in the competition, but hey... It did :D

Im releasing a new version today with a bugfix and some small changes in gameplay. Download the update when it is up on Google play.

On another subject: Ive started developing a new game with a new team. Ill keep you posted on how that goes along, but the ideas we spawned sofar is really cool :D

Top placement in mobile cup

One of the reasons this game was made was becuase of Mobile Cup, which is a mobile competition for students. Well, I just received an email from them that Jons Space Adventures has made it into the top three in the programming part of the competition.

The winner will be announced on friday the 15:th. Ill be keeping my thumbs and stuff crossed for this :)

Review from CtrlAltElite

Here is the reiew from CtrlAltElite(Swedish). They rate the game with 5/9 which feels great since they rate diablo 3 with 9/9, so half as good?  =)

It feels great that people takes time and try out this game, we are now on 50+ downloads on the freeversion. Hopefully people will take the step to the fullversion from there and try out the rest of the maps.

Launching the freeversion today

Its time to launch the free version of this game. Keep your eyes open on the googlePlay to see when it pops up.

By releasing the freeversion first Im hoping to find more unsupported devices. This will give us a better launch for the fullversion.

This also mean that the betaversion will be removed from this site. Thanks to all the betaplayers who has been helping out with the game :)

The fullversion will be launched within a few days :)

Getting ready for release

Were moving towards the release on googleplay.
Theres another mapPack ready for the release, so the game will have about 80 maps when released.
And the first mapPack has been reorganized in terms of difficulty, so each map will be more difficult than the one before. This will hopefully make the gameplay funnier.

We will also release a free version of the game with about 20 maps so new players can try the game before downloading the full game.

New version

The latest version 0.26 will not overwrite the old version. That leaves you with two options, you either uninstall the previous version or you keep both. Then have no idea which one youre playing ;)

Bugfixes and polishing

We're working on fixing the last bugs and polishing the game for release.
Going to try a beta test on http://thebetafamily.com/ and see if something good comes out of it =)

New shiny version

Everything that was being drawned each frame is now moved to openGL, should raise the Fps quite a bit on older phones.

Moving stuff to openGl

The game has 2 layers that build up the drawing on the screen. First an openGL in the background that shows the game and then a Canvas layer infront that shows menus and status.

After some testing on older devices I noticed that by disabling the Canvas layer the Fps got much higher and smoother. By watching "method profiling" in Eclipse I had suspected this, using a Handler and Canvas takes alot of cpu. 

So after the result from the tests Ive decided to move all the gameplay elements that was in Canvas to openGL. 
Menus will still be in the canvas layer, but they will not be called every frame. 

Things will be running smoother from now on :)

We are now up in version 0.2 and theres more stuff here than before.
Sound, did I hear sound? Yup theres sound in the game now. Now you can spam that soundbutton and stuff actually happens :)

Still working on the game

We are in a polishing mode now, trying to get the game to a point where it can be released.

Theres a problem with some devices (Samsung galaxy S, HTC desire, that I know about) that doesnt show the textures correctly. Instead of showing the textures they show white boxes.
The first idea was that those devices was missing some GL extensions, but after finding a great post on stackoverflow about what extensions the devices has I'm not so sure anymore.
The ones I use is draw_texture and glDrawElements which both has. Both seems to be missing drawElements, might be the problem...

And also theres about 75 maps left todo before launch :)

Icon and other news

I have finally made an icon, dunno if its gonna be final or not...




On the development front we are up to version 0.18 and its starting to look pretty darn good.
Lots of polishing left but I think the game can be released within a month(before Diablo 3 release...)

The graphicsguy got to do some work today, this is some of the output. Its one of the planet types, the welcome planet. The one you can land on and fly away from.

Beta tester?

If you check out the page "about the game" youll find some links to the .apk file(used for installing the game on android) and also a leveleditor so that you can make your own maps. Lets roll :)

Starting up the blog

We are starting up the blog to show the masses this game and what it takes to create it.
The game has been in production for about a month now and its mostly the coderguy who has been working (read the game looks like shiet...). Im switching to the graphicsguy this week so hopefully the game will be better looking soon.
